Round lapus lazuli

This lovely gemstone features gold speckles. Lapis lazuli is a deep blue semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. At the end of the Middle Ages, lapis was commonly exported to be ground into powder and made into ultramarine, the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments. Considered a soft stone, lapis lazuli is one of the most valuable semi opaque stones. Today most lapis is sourced from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia and Chile.
